Phong Nha
Limestone caves at Phong Nha
Located in Quang Binh Province, Phong Nha-Ke Bang National Park is around a five hour drive north of Bach Ma National Park. It is situated in an area of limestone karst formations and the extensive karst cave systems are a major tourist attraction. The national park has been designated a UNESCO Natural World Heritage Site. However because of the park’s location on the border of Laos access to the national park proper is difficult. Fortunately for visiting birders Phong Nha’s main attraction, and the only speciality likely to be seen without access to the national park, the Sooty Babbler, can be found outside the national park boundaries at the main tourist site near the caves.
